V Rising Beginner Build Guide

One clear path from your first bone sword to endgame — Sword to Greatsword progression with Brute blood at every stage.

📈 Stage-by-Stage Progression (GS 0-91)

Follow this table from fresh spawn to endgame. Each stage tells you exactly what weapon, blood type, and armor to use — and which boss unlocks the next upgrade.

Gear ScoreWeaponBlood TypeArmorKey Boss Unlock
GS 0-15Bone SwordBrute (any %)BoneguardAlpha Wolf (Leatherworking)
GS 15-30Copper SwordBrute 20%+NightstalkerQuincey the Bandit King (Iron)
GS 30-50Iron GreatswordBrute 40%+HollowfangOctavian (Dark Silver)
GS 50-70Dark Silver GreatswordBrute 60%+DawnthornStyx (Bloodmoon crafting)
GS 70-91Bloodmoon GreatswordBrute 90%+Bloodmoon → SanguineDracula (Ancestral Forge)

The key insight: start with Sword, switch to Greatsword at GS 30. Sword is faster and more forgiving while you learn boss mechanics. At GS 30, you have enough attack speed (from Brute blood) to make Greatsword feel smooth.

🦴 Early Game Setup (GS 0-30)

Your first 2-3 hours in Vardoran. Survival is the priority — this build keeps you alive while you learn the basics.

GS 0-15: The Bone Phase

SlotChoiceHow to Get
WeaponBone SwordCraft from bones dropped by skeletons in the starter graveyard
BloodBrute (any quality)Kill any brute-type enemy. Bandit Thugs and Bears count as Brute blood.
ArmorBoneguard SetCraft from bones + animal hide. Your first full set.
SpellShadowbolt (starter)Your only spell at this stage. Use it to pull enemies one at a time.
First Hour Priority: Don't fight everything. Gather bones, plant fibers, and animal hide. Craft Boneguard armor and a Bone Sword. Find a Brute-blood enemy (bears are easiest) and feed. Then kill Alpha Wolf — the first V Blood boss — to unlock Leatherworking.

GS 15-30: The Copper Phase

SlotChoiceHow to Get
WeaponCopper SwordMine copper ore in Bandit Copper Mine (Farbane Woods). Smelt into bars.
BloodBrute 20%+ qualityStart checking blood quality. 20%+ is common on bears and bandit leaders.
ArmorNightstalker SetCopper bars + leather. Your first armor with a damage bonus (+physical).
SpellsChaos Volley + Veil of BloodChaos Volley from Lidia the Chaos Archer. Veil of Blood from any high-level blood carrier.

⚔️ Mid Game Transition (GS 30-70)

This is where you graduate from Sword to Greatsword and start fighting real bosses. The training wheels come off.

GS 30-50: The Greatsword Switch

SlotChoiceReason
WeaponIron GreatswordSwitch from Sword. Iron Greatsword's charged heavy already hits 2x harder than Copper Sword.
BloodBrute 40%+ qualityFarm bears in Dunley Farmlands. 40%+ Brute blood gives noticeable attack speed.
ArmorHollowfang SetIron + Cotton. +Health and +Physical damage. Kill Quincey for Iron Smithing.
SpellsSanguine Coil addedHeal on hit. Essential now that you're in melee range with Greatsword.

GS 50-70: Dark Silver Power Spike

SlotChoiceReason
WeaponDark Silver GreatswordSignificant damage jump. Kill Octavian for Dark Silver smithing.
BloodBrute 60%+ qualityAt 60%+, the attack speed bonus is transformative. Greatsword no longer feels slow.
ArmorDawnthorn SetHighest +Health bonus of this tier. Gives you the tankiness to trade hits with bosses.
SpellsFull PvE kitVeil of Blood + Sanguine Coil + Chaos Volley. Your core rotation is now complete.
Don't Skip Brute Blood Farming: Many beginners ignore blood quality and struggle. A 60%+ Brute blood transforms Greatsword from "too slow" to "devastating." Spend 30 minutes farming bears in Dunley — it's worth it. Use the Blood Hunger system (default key: V) to check blood quality before feeding.

👑 Endgame Goal (GS 70-91)

By endgame, your beginner build has evolved into a full Greatsword Brute PvE build. Here's the final form.

SlotBest-in-SlotNotes
WeaponSanguine Greatsword / Legendary General's GreatswordCraft at Ancestral Forge. Legendary variant from General Valencia has highest base damage.
BloodBrute 90-100% quality25% attack speed at 90%+. Farm Gloomrot brutes for the best blood.
ArmorSanguine Armor SetMaximum all stats. Requires Ancestral Forge unlocked by killing Dracula.
UltimateHeart StrikeKill Styx for this ultimate. Boss finisher + heal. The perfect capstone for this build.

⚠️ Common Beginner Mistakes to Avoid

These five mistakes kill more new players than any boss. Avoid them and you'll progress twice as fast.

Mistake #1: Ignoring Blood Quality. Any blood type at any quality gives some benefit, but low-quality blood (under 20%) gives almost nothing. A 60%+ Brute blood doubles your damage output through attack speed alone. Always check blood quality (press V) before feeding.
Mistake #2: Skipping Armor Upgrades. Gear Score gates boss fights — if your GS is below the boss's level, you deal reduced damage and take extra. Upgrade your armor before fighting each tier of boss. A full set of Hollowfang at GS 30 is worth more than a fancy weapon with Boneguard armor.
Mistake #3: Fighting Everything. Early game enemies drop almost nothing of value. Run past non-essential mobs and focus on V Blood bosses. Each boss unlocks a crafting recipe or ability — they are the only mandatory fights.
Mistake #4: Using the Wrong Weapon Type. Sword is the only beginner-friendly weapon. Reaper and Greatsword are better but require experience to use effectively. If you're dying a lot, switch back to Sword — its faster attack speed gives you more dodge windows.
Mistake #5: Neglecting Castle Upgrades. Your castle is your progression engine. Upgrade Castle Heart → Workshop → Forge → Tailor Bench in that order. Every gear upgrade requires the corresponding crafting station at the right level.
