V Rising Claw Build Guide — Best PvE & PvP Setup. Updated .

V Rising Claw Build

Claws are V Rising's ultimate aggression weapon — introduced in the Invaders of Oakveil expansion, they bring unmatched mobility and relentless pressure to every fight. The Pounce (E) has nearly double the range of any other weapon's gap closer, and Flurry (Q) delivers 5+ rapid hits that shred armor and proc on-hit effects faster than any other weapon. This build turns you into a predator that never lets the target breathe. Every recommendation tested through extensive PvP dueling and Brutal PvE content.

🦅 Why Claws?

Claws are not a "balanced" weapon — they're designed for one thing: relentless, suffocating aggression.

StrengthDetail
Longest gap closer in the gamePounce (E) covers nearly 2x the distance of any other weapon dash. You can engage from off-screen.
Fastest on-hit triggerFlurry (Q) hits 5-7 times in ~1.5 seconds. This procs Rogue armor-expose, Scholar cooldown reset, and jewel effects at unmatched speed.
Stickiest weaponBetween Pounce (E) and the innate move speed during Flurry, a target cannot escape you without burning both their dodge and a movement spell.
Omnidirectional attacksClaw auto-attacks and Flurry hit in a wide cone in front of you — you don't need perfect aim to connect.
Surprisingly good at PvEFlurry's rapid hits against a single boss trigger Scholar cooldown reset nearly instantly, enabling skill-spam boss killing.

Weaknesses

  • Squishy — no innate defense or sustain. You die fast if caught in CC.
  • High skill floor — managing cooldowns, spacing, and knowing when to disengage requires practice. Bad Claw players feed; good ones are unkillable.
  • Poor AoE clear — Flurry hits a cone but small area. Not a farming weapon.

🗡️ PvP Claw Build — The Duelist

This is what Claws were designed for. The PvP Claw build is the strongest 1v1 setup in the game.

Full Configuration

SlotChoiceReason
WeaponClaws (Sanguine tier)Legendary variant with +physical damage and +crit chance affixes.
Blood TypeRogue 90%+ qualityArmor expose on crit. Flurry hits 5-7 times — statistically at least one crit per use. Exposed armor = +20-30% damage from all sources for 6 seconds.
ArmorDawnthorn → SanguineDawnthorn's +health bonus keeps you alive through trades. Switch to Sanguine at GS 91 for the all-stat boost.
Travel SpellVeil of BloodDash through enemy → heal. Combined with Claws' own E, you have two gap closers — one with a heal attached.
Basic Spell 1Chaos VolleyRanged poke while Pounce is on cooldown. Forces them to react even when you're not in melee range.
Basic Spell 2Frost BarrierDefensive layer. Pop Barrier → E (Pounce) in — their counter-burst is absorbed. If they retreat, the slow gives you a free Flurry.
UltimateHeart StrikeFinisher. E → Q → Heart Strike is a kill confirm on any target below 50% HP without defensive cooldowns.

Engagement Pattern

  1. Poke: Chaos Volley at range. Walk at them aggressively — the threat of Pounce forces them to backpedal.
  2. Engage: E (Pounce) from outside their reaction range → immediate Q (Flurry). Flurry procs Rogue's armor-expose on the first or second crit.
  3. Pressure: Auto-attack weave between Flurry hits for extra damage. They will dodge — your second gap closer (Veil of Blood) catches them.
  4. Finish: Target below 50% HP, armor exposed, dodge burned → Heart Strike. Kills through most defensive spells due to armor-expose + raw damage.
  5. Reset: If they survive the burst, disengage with Veil of Blood. Wait for E cooldown (8 seconds). Re-engage. Claws win through repeated bursts, not one all-in.
Golden Rule of Claws: Never stop moving. Between Pounce, Veil dash, and standard movement, a Claw player should be repositioning every 1-2 seconds. A stationary Claw player is a dead Claw player — you have no tankiness to fall back on.

⚔️ PvE Claw Build — Boss Killer Variant

Adapted for single-target PvE where mobility is less critical and sustained damage matters more.

SlotChoiceReason
Blood TypeScholar 60%+ (alt: Brute 60%+)Scholar's cooldown reset procs constantly from Flurry's multi-hit. Q → reset → Q → reset. Brute if you prefer attack speed.
ArmorBloodmoon → Sanguine+Physical damage for PvE boss killing. You take less damage in PvE, so trade Dawnthorn's HP for Bloodmoon's damage.
Travel SpellVeil of BloodDash + heal. Essential sustain in prolonged boss fights.
Basic SpellsSanguine Coil + Chaos VolleyCoil for healing between mechanics. Volley for ranged damage during boss disengage phases.

🩸 Best Blood Type — Rogue Breakdown

Rogue blood + Claws is the most synergistic weapon-blood pairing in V Rising. Here's why it works so well.

Rogue blood's key mechanic: Critical hits expose enemy armor for 6 seconds, reducing defense by 20-30% (scaling with blood quality). Claws' Flurry (Q) hits 5-7 times in ~1.5 seconds. With a base crit chance of ~15% (higher with jewels), the probability of at least one crit per Flurry is over 80%. This means your target has exposed armor for most of the fight, and your entire kit — weapon damage, spell damage, jewel procs — deals 20-30% more damage.

Quality matters enormously. At 30% Rogue blood quality, armor expose is ~10% and rarely procs. At 90%+ quality, it's 25-30% and stays active almost permanently during combat. Farm Rogue blood from high-level bandits in Silverlight Hills (nighttime patrols have higher quality) or from specific V Blood bosses like Tristan the Vampire Hunter. → Blood farming guide

Spell Loadout

Claws need three things from spells: a backup gap closer (your E alone isn't enough if they dodge), defensive coverage (you're squishy), and ranged pressure (so you're not useless when E is on cooldown).

🎯 Advanced Claw Techniques

Pounce Cancel: Press E, then immediately dodge. You'll cancel the Pounce but keep the threat — your opponent will have already dodged or used a defensive spell. Now they're on cooldown and your E is still up. This costs nothing and wins fights against experienced players.
Flurry Weaving: Between Flurry hits, you can input a single auto-attack without interrupting the Flurry sequence. This adds ~15% more damage per Flurry. The timing is tight but learnable — look for the visual flash between the 3rd and 4th Flurry hit.
Wall Pounce: Pounce can target enemies through thin walls. Use this to ambush players inside buildings, jump from lower floors to upper floors, or escape by Pouncing to a deer on the other side of a cliff. Pounce is a mobility tool, not just a combat opener.
Never all-in without an exit. Always hold either Veil of Blood or E for disengagement. If you burn both offensively and the fight turns against you, you're dead. Claws win through repeated short bursts, not one extended trade. Engage → burst → disengage → repeat.

PvP Matchup Guide

Opponent WeaponWin RateStrategy
Greatsword65%Bait charged heavy → Pounce during their recovery. Never trade into a charged heavy — you'll lose 60% HP.
Reaper75%Pounce as soon as they start a swing. Get inside Reaper's minimum range — they can't hit you at point blank.
Longbow80%Free win if you close the gap. Pounce → Flurry deletes them. They have one defensive spell — wait for it, then re-engage.
Claws (mirror)50%Whoever Pounces first loses — the defender Flurries on reaction and wins the trade. Play patient and force them to engage.
Slashers45%Slashers' stealth counters your aggression. They open from stealth → bleed → disengage. Save Frost Barrier for the stealth opener and Pounce when they try to reset.
Spear60%Pounce at an angle to avoid their thrust. Flurry from the side — Spear's linear attacks miss when you're not directly in front.

FAQ

Are Claws hard to play?

Yes — Claws have the highest skill floor of any V Rising weapon. You need to manage Pounce cooldown, Flurry timing, spell rotations, and disengage windows all while staying in melee range of a target that wants you dead. New players should start with Greatsword or Sword and graduate to Claws after 50+ hours.

Where do I get the best Claws?

Legendary Claws drop from Oakveil bosses (Invaders of Oakveil expansion content). For crafted versions, the Ancestral Claws from the Ancestral Forge (endgame) are best-in-slot with customizable affixes. See Boss Kill Order → for Oakveil boss locations.

Should I use Claws or Greatsword?

Claws for PvP and aggressive play. Greatsword for PvE boss killing and players who prefer patience over aggression. Many endgame players max both weapon types and swap per situation. See Greatsword Build →
