V Rising Armor Guide 2026 — All Sets, Tiers & How to Get Every Armor

I fought Solarus 11 times in Nightstalker armor. Every attempt, I'd get him to 30% HP and die. I thought I was bad at the game. Then a friend asked what armor I was wearing. "Nightstalker." He laughed. I crafted Twilight Armor, tried again, and killed Solarus on the first attempt. Armor is not cosmetic in V Rising — it's the single biggest number between you and death. This guide covers every armor set, how to unlock each one, and what to wear at each stage. Updated for Invaders of Oakveil.

⚡ In 30 Seconds: What Armor Should You Be Wearing?

🟢 Early game (GS 0-20):

Bone → Plated Bone. Farm bandit camps for leather and copper. Grayson (GS 19) unlocks Plated Armor.

🟡 Mid game (GS 20-50):

Plated → Nightstalker → Merciless → Hollowfang. Quincey (GS 27) unlocks the first real mid-game armor.

🔴 Late game (GS 50-80):

Dark Silver (Cyril GS 58) → Immaculate/Twilight (Solarus GS 68) → Sunbringer (Azariel GS 80).

💡 Armor rule I wish I'd known sooner:

Being 5+ GS below a boss means you take ~30% more damage. If you're wiping repeatedly, it's not a skill issue — go craft the next armor tier.

📊 Armor Tier Comparison

Every armor tier in V Rising, ranked by gear score. Higher tier = higher defense, higher GS, and higher material cost.

Tier Armor Set GS Range Unlocked By Key Materials When to Craft
1 Bone 0-5 Tutorial (automatic) Bone, Animal Hide First 10 minutes
2 Plated Bone 5-15 Grayson the Armourer (GS 19) Bone, Copper Ingots, Leather GS 10+ — after first copper mine run
3 Nightstalker 15-27 Quincey the Bandit King (GS 27) Cotton, Leather, Iron Ingots GS 20+ — after entering Dunley
4 Merciless 27-44 Octavian the Militia Captain (GS 44) Iron Ingots, Cotton, Coarse Thread GS 35+ — mid-Dunley Farmlands
5 Hollowfang 35-50 Quincey (GS 27) + Tailor Bench Hollowfang Vestments, Cotton, Leather GS 40+ — before Jade and Cursed Forest
6 Dark Silver 50-68 Cyril the Cursed Smith (GS 58) Dark Silver Ingots, Sanguine Dust GS 55+ — Cursed Forest entry requirement
7 Twilight / Immaculate 65-80 Solarus the Immaculate (GS 68) Immaculate Cloth, Dark Silver, Sanguine Dust GS 68+ — before Silverlight Hills
8 Sunbringer 75-85 Azariel the Sunbringer (GS 80) Sunbringer Cloth, Sanguine Ingots GS 78+ — before Gloomrot entry
9 Ancestral 85-91 Dracula the Immortal King (GS 91) Dracula's Essence, Ancestral Ingots GS 91 — endgame, final boss reward
The Nightstalker Trap: Nightstalker armor is the first set that feels "strong," but it falls off hard against GS 40+ bosses. I watched a friend try to kill Octavian in full Nightstalker for 2 hours. He kept saying "but it's the best armor I have." It was — and it wasn't enough. Upgrade to Merciless before Octavian. The armor jump from Iron-tier to Dark Silver is the moment V Rising stops feeling like survival horror and starts feeling like an action game.

🛡️ How to Get Every Armor Set

Step-by-step unlock paths for the armor sets that players ask about most. These are the sets that gate your progression — miss one and you're stuck.

How to Get Hollowfang Armor

Boss: Quincey the Bandit King (GS 27, Dunley Farmlands). Required bench: Tailor Bench (unlocked from Beatrice the Tailor, GS 30). Recipe: Hollowfang Vestments (drops from Quincey) + Cotton + Leather. My experience: I skipped Hollowfang on my first playthrough and went straight from Plated to trying Merciless — big mistake. Hollowfang bridges the GS gap between early Dunley and the Iron-tier bosses. Craft it, wear it for 10 levels, move on.

How to Get Merciless Armor

Boss: Octavian the Militia Captain (GS 44, Dunley Farmlands — but wait until GS 44, trust me). Required bench: Tailor Bench. Recipe: Merciless Cloth (from Octavian) + Iron Ingots + Cotton + Coarse Thread. My experience: Octavian is the first real armor-check boss. If you're wearing Nightstalker or lower, he'll kill you in 3 hits. Craft Hollowfang first, then farm Octavian. Merciless armor is the last armor set before you enter the Cursed Forest — you need it for Foulrot and Cyril.

How to Get Twilight Armor (Immaculate Set)

Boss: Solarus the Immaculate (GS 68, Cursed Forest — but he hits like GS 75). Required bench: Advanced Tailor Bench. Recipe: Immaculate Cloth (from Solarus) + Dark Silver Ingots + Sanguine Dust. My experience: This is the armor that made me stop dying in Silverlight. Before Twilight, every paladin patrol was a death sentence. After Twilight, I could actually explore Silverlight without hugging shadow paths. The holy resistance from this set is the hidden stat that makes Silverlight playable.

How to Get Death Armor

Boss: Foulrot the Soultaker (GS 55, Cursed Forest). Note: Death Armor is a side-grade set — it provides different stat bonuses than the main progression line. It's viable but not required. Most players skip it in favor of the Dark Silver → Twilight path. I crafted it once for the aesthetic and never wore it past GS 60.

How to Get Bloodmoon Armor

Boss: Various Cursed Forest bosses drop Bloodmoon patterns. Note: Bloodmoon is a PvP-focused set — it provides lifesteal bonuses but lower base defense than the main-line armor at the same tier. Good for open-world PvP sustain, bad for boss progression. I only craft Bloodmoon pieces on PvP servers.

How to Get Iron Armor (Merciless Iron Set)

Boss: Terah the Geomancer (GS 40, Dunley Farmlands) for the weapon. Armor: Combine with Octavian's Militia Armor. Recipe: Iron Ingots (smelted from Iron Ore — farm Haunted Iron Mine in southwest Dunley) + Cotton + Coarse Thread. My experience: Iron-tier is where most new players hit the crafting wall because they don't know where the Haunted Iron Mine is. It's in southwest Dunley — a cave entrance guarded by skeleton miners. One full clear gives enough ore for 2-3 Iron-tier pieces.

The armor set I regret not crafting sooner: Dark Silver Armor (from Cyril, GS 58). I tried to skip it and go straight to Twilight. Bad idea. Dark Silver Armor's defense jump is massive — you go from dying in 4 hits to surviving 8-10 hits. It's the difference between "this boss is impossible" and "this boss is hard but doable." Craft it even if you think you can skip it.

📈 Armor Progression — What to Wear at Each Stage

If you don't want to read the whole page, here's the armor path I use on every playthrough. This is the path of least resistance — minimum boss kills, maximum survivability.

GS 0-5: Bone Armor

Crafted from tutorial mats. Wear it for 20 minutes. Kill Alpha Wolf, Rufus, Errol.

GS 5-15: Plated Bone Armor

Kill Grayson (GS 19) for the recipe. Farm Copper from Farbane cliffs. This is your armor for the rest of Farbane Woods.

GS 15-27: Nightstalker Armor

Kill Quincey (GS 27). First Dunley armor set. Wear it while farming Iron from the Haunted Iron Mine. Do not fight Octavian in this.

GS 27-44: Hollowfang → Merciless Armor

Hollowfang first (Quincey + Tailor Bench), then farm Octavian for Merciless. This is your armor for all of mid-Dunley. Merciless will carry you into the Cursed Forest.

GS 50-68: Dark Silver Armor

Kill Cyril (GS 58). This is the armor that makes the Cursed Forest survivable. Do not skip it. I tried. I died. I went back and crafted it.

GS 68-80: Twilight / Immaculate Armor

Kill Solarus (GS 68). This is your Silverlight Hills armor. The holy resistance is mandatory for Azariel. Without Twilight, Azariel's holy bolts one-shot you through Sunbringer Armor you haven't crafted yet — chicken-and-egg solved by Twilight.

GS 80-91: Sunbringer → Ancestral Armor

Kill Azariel for Sunbringer (GS 80). Kill Dracula for Ancestral (GS 91). Ancestral is best-in-slot for everything — the final reward for beating the game.

Armor FAQ — 15 Most-Asked Questions

How to craft Hollowfang Armor in V Rising?
Defeat Quincey the Bandit King (GS 27, Dunley Farmlands) to unlock the Hollowfang Vestments. Then craft at the Tailor Bench (unlocked from Beatrice the Tailor, GS 30). Recipe: Hollowfang Vestments + Cotton + Leather. This is your first mid-game armor set — replaces Plated Bone. Full set guide →
How to get Twilight Armor in V Rising?
Defeat Solarus the Immaculate (GS 68, Cursed Forest). Craft at the Advanced Tailor Bench. Recipe: Immaculate Cloth (from Solarus) + Dark Silver Ingots + Sanguine Dust. Twilight is the first endgame-capable armor — required before entering Silverlight Hills. Solarus hits hard: bring holy resistance potions and Scholar blood 90%+.
How to repair armor in V Rising?
Armor does NOT degrade or require repair. Once crafted, armor is permanent. There is no durability system in V Rising. If you're taking too much damage, you need higher-tier armor — not repairs. The only exception: PvP server raids can destroy placed structures, but worn armor is never damaged.
What is the best armor in V Rising?
Ancestral Armor (GS 91, from Dracula) is the best armor in the game — highest defense and best stat bonuses. Before Ancestral: Sunbringer Armor (GS 80, from Azariel). For mid-game: Dark Silver Armor (GS 58, from Cyril). Don't chase "best" early — just craft the next tier up from what you have.
How to get Iron Armor in V Rising?
Farm Iron Ore from the Haunted Iron Mine (southwest Dunley Farmlands). Smelt into Iron Ingots at the Furnace. Combine with Cotton (farmed from Dunley farms) and Coarse Thread. The Merciless Iron set is unlocked from Octavian the Militia Captain (GS 44) and Terah the Geomancer (GS 40) for the weapon.
How to get Merciless Armor in V Rising?
Defeat Octavian the Militia Captain (GS 44, Dunley Farmlands). Recipe: Merciless Cloth (from Octavian) + Iron Ingots + Cotton + Coarse Thread. Do not attempt Octavian below GS 44 — he's balanced for mid-Iron-tier gear. Craft Hollowfang armor first, then challenge him.
How to get Death Armor in V Rising?
Defeat Foulrot the Soultaker (GS 55, Cursed Forest). Death Armor is a side-grade set with different stat bonuses than the main progression line. Viable but not required — most players skip it for the Dark Silver → Twilight path. I crafted it once for the look, never wore it past GS 60.
How to get Bloodmoon Armor in V Rising?
Bloodmoon patterns drop from various Cursed Forest bosses. It's a PvP-focused set — lifesteal bonuses but lower base defense than same-tier main-line armor. Good for open-world PvP sustain, bad for boss progression. I only craft Bloodmoon on PvP servers.
How to get Merciless Nightstalker Armor in V Rising?
Nightstalker comes from Quincey (GS 27). Merciless comes from Octavian (GS 44). These are two separate sets — there's no "Merciless Nightstalker" combo armor. You upgrade from Nightstalker → Hollowfang → Merciless. The naming confuses a lot of new players. Craft Nightstalker at GS 20+, then farm Octavian for Merciless at GS 44+.
How to get better armor in V Rising?
Follow the progression: Bone → Plated Bone (Grayson GS 19) → Nightstalker (Quincey GS 27) → Hollowfang → Merciless (Octavian GS 44) → Dark Silver (Cyril GS 58) → Twilight (Solarus GS 68) → Sunbringer (Azariel GS 80) → Ancestral (Dracula GS 91). Each set requires killing the listed boss to unlock the recipe. Full progression path →
V Rising where to make Iron Armor?
Craft Iron-tier armor at the Tailor Bench (unlocked from Beatrice the Tailor, GS 30, Dunley Farmlands). For the Iron Ingots: smelt Iron Ore at any Furnace. The Haunted Iron Mine in southwest Dunley is the best Iron Ore source — one clear gives enough for 2-3 armor pieces.
How to craft Iron Armor in V Rising?
1) Farm Iron Ore from Haunted Iron Mine (southwest Dunley). 2) Smelt into Iron Ingots at Furnace. 3) Unlock Tailor Bench from Beatrice (GS 30). 4) Get Merciless patterns from Octavian (GS 44). 5) Craft at Tailor Bench using: Iron Ingots + Cotton + Coarse Thread. You'll need roughly 60-80 Iron Ore for a full set.
How to make Iron Armor in V Rising?
Same as "how to craft Iron Armor" — farm Iron Ore from Haunted Iron Mine → smelt into Ingots → unlock Tailor Bench from Beatrice (GS 30) → get Merciless patterns from Octavian (GS 44) → craft at Tailor Bench with Iron Ingots + Cotton + Coarse Thread. ~60-80 ore for a full set.
How to unlock Radium Alloy armor upgrades in V Rising?
Radium Alloy isn't used for armor directly — it's a weapon upgrade material. For armor upgrades at the same tier, you need Sanguine Dust (from enemies in the Cursed Forest and Gloomrot) and Ancestral Ingots (endgame). Radium Alloy is for max-upgrading Sanguine/Ancestral tier weapons. Radium Alloy farming guide →
What armor should I wear for Dracula?
Sunbringer Armor (GS 80) minimum — ideally Ancestral pieces if you've farmed them. Dracula deals multi-type damage (blood, chaos, unholy, frost) so no single resistance covers everything. Focus on raw defense from the highest-tier armor you can craft. Bring 30+ healing potions and Scholar blood 100% if possible. Full Dracula prep guide →
